


INCOME: A Canadian carpenter makes approximately $30-$40 per hour and works a 37.5 hour work week. A labourer makes approximately $20-$30 per hour and works a 44 hour work week.
COMMERCIAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS: Such as office building, hotels, clubs etc. have average of 50-70 workers on site 5-6 days per week.
INDUSTRIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS: Industrial projects such as factories, manufacturing facilities, and auto plants, have up to 1000 construction workers on site while institutional projects, such as schools, hospitals, and medical centers, can often have more than 1000 contruction workers 5-6 days per week.
TRANSIENT TRAFFIC: On an average work day 15-20% additional traffic will visit the constuction site. This includes everything from truck drivers to architects.
SEASONALITY: With the exception of excavation phases in some northern regions constuction continues all year round.
GENDER: Approximately 5% of workers are female and 95% male.
PRIVATE OR TRADE COMPANIES: The average work site is split between 50% private entrepreneurs and 50% employees of trade companies.
UNIONS: The average work site is comprised of both union and non-union trades, such as carpenters, plumbers, electrical workers, and laborers.
CELL PHONES: Almost all construction workers have and use cell phones.
COMPUTERS: About 50% of construction worker are web literate.
TOOLS/BUILDING SUPPLIES: Construction workers purchase and maintain their own tools.
